Well, sadly, the short answer is no. So you can’t go sticking your tin cans to them – as hilarious as that might look.
But they do have the power to perceive the magnetic fields of the earth! -queue doctor who music-
According to a scientific study performed in the Czech University of Life Sciences in the Czech Republic and the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany, Dogs do align themselves with the magnetic field (in perfect conditions) to poop.
An array of dogs were used, 70 dogs from Pugs to Rhodesian Ridgebacks, over 2 years and almost 1900 poops. That found that in perfect magnetic conditions, off lead, and with no ‘obvious’ obstructions (walls, cars, roads etc) that a dog will align north to south to do it’s business.
Does that mean can I use your dog as a compass…?
Again! Sadly, no. Because the world is not at perfect Lab (like the picture… haha!) conditions, it means only about 20% of the time they do this in real life.
This article is Lab tested & approved!
